Top 3 Essential Oils For Boosting Your Mood

Boosting mood is just one of these. The strong aromas are capable of stimulating the mood centers of the brain which helps to calm and relax the mind while also boosting mood.

If you’re feeling down in the dumps, if you lack energy and enthusiasm or if you just need a little lift, try these three essential oils to enhance your mood, help you relax and ease away stress.

Citrus Oils

Citrus oils include lemon, orange and grapefruit and all three help to give a little lift.

The study found that from a sample of 56 healthy men and women, a significant proportion experienced increases in their levels of norepinephrine after exposure to lemon oil. Orange essential oil has been identified as an anti-depressant that helps to relieve negative feelings and also a natural sedative that helps you to calm down, relax and ease anxiety. Grapefruit essential oil has many of the same benefits, but is also a powerful stimulant that gives new directions to thoughts and enhances creativity.

Lavender Oil

Rosemary Oil

Recent research published in the journal Therapeutic Advances In Pharmacology in February 2012 revealed that participants exposed to rosemary oil for a longer period of time performed better at basic cognitive tasks and reported feeling more content.

Twenty participants were secretly exposed to rosemary oil for a period between four and ten minutes. The results revealed that the longer the exposure, the greater the boost in mood as measured by a self-report questionnaire.

There are a number of ways you can reap the benefits from these essential oils. You could add a few drops to your evening bath, you could mix with a carrier oil (such as grape seed or almond oil) and massage them into your skin or you could combine a few drops with half a cup of distilled water in a mist spray bottle and spray regularly.

The above three essential oils have been found to uplift mood in test subjects, but each individual is different and will respond differently to each oil. Test a variety of scents for yourself and discover which ones have the greatest impact for enhancing your mood.
