Recent tests show that soy sauce are found to be carcinogenic

FDA issued this warning following their inspection, wherein they found out some soy sauce products containing 3-monochloropropane-1, 2-diol (3-MCPD) — chemicals that can cause cancer, as seen on the local TV report.

To ensure the safety and health of everyone, FDA recommended that the buying public avoid brand-less or repacked soy sauce found in the wet markets. In the Philippines, FDA is now collaborating with the LGUs to conduct testing and monitoring with soy sauces and limit the market to “Philippine-made” products only.

The usual level of soy sauce products in the Philippines is at 0.16ppm of 3MCPD, and a person will have to ingest 1 liter daily for several years before risking himself to developing cancer.
