Pope Benedict XVI to resign Feb. 28, 2013


Pope Benedict XVI is about to resign by the end of February, after being the head of the Catholic Church for eight years. The basis of his resignation are his old age and poor health. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger succeeded Blessed John Paul II in 2005 after the latter’s death.

This news has shocked millions of faithful, as for 600 years, this act will be the first among the papal resignation being announced.

The Vatican released a statement that the new Pope will be elected by a conclave of Cardinals before the Easter.
