How to install XAMPP in Linux

Linux XAMPP is far more better to use than a full fledged Linux LAMP server. I’ll cover the simple installation below.

Procedure to install XAMMP:

1. Download Linux XAMPP Build 1.7.7

2. Go to the Linux shell for the installation procedures. Extract the downloaded archive to /opt:

sudo tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.7.3a.tar.gz -C /opt

Tip: Use only this command to install Linux XAMPP. DON’T use any tools to extract the archive manually, or it won’t work.

After the successful installation, the Linux XAMPP system was already located in the /opt/lampp directory.

3. To start XAMPP simply execute the command:

sudo /opt/lampp/lampp start

Now you should see something like this:

Starting XAMPP 1.7.3a…
LAMPP: Starting Apache…
LAMPP: Starting MySQL…
LAMPP started.

You can now test XAMPP server by calling this at your favorite browser:
