How to change the default server time zone

Setting up the correct timezone for your server is particularly useful, in case you are serving time critical applications. Most servers are provisioned to use the default settings of their data center.

I will be using the Asia/Manila timezone for reference. You must change it to your correct country timezone.

1. The setting is pretty simple. Run this command:

rm /etc/localtime
ln -s /usr/share/zoneinfo/Asia/Manila /etc/localtime

2. Just restart the server to see the changes:

/etc/init.d/apache2 restart
